International Ice Sculpture Competition
January 25 - 27, 2007

Ice Magic is a yearly ice carving competition held at Lake Louise, Alberta, Canada.

The team competition is held in front of the Chateau Lake Louise. This year there was no individual competition.

This year each team was given 15 blocks of ice and has 28 hours, over a three day period to carve their works of art.

The ICE

A little about the ice that everyone starts with. The ice is manufactured, not cut from the lake as some people think. The water used to make the ice is filtered and has no chemicals added. The machine used to make the ice, called a Clienebell after its creator, constantly stirs the water as is freezes from the bottom up. It take 72 to 84 hours to make blocks of ice. Once the ice is made it is wrapped in plastic then boxed and ready for the customer. Each block weighs 300 lbs.

A Little about me

This is my eigth Ice Magic, each year I seem to take more pictures. This year I out did last years picture count, but not personal record. I try to get pictures of the carvings as they are being built. I get a few action shots as things happen, but some time I miss some things. There is some much going on it is hard to stay in one spot.

The Pictures

I have upgraded my digital camera this which takes even higher quality images than last year, with it I took ??? pictures this year. Unfortunately I do not have enough space on the web to display all of them. So I have only posted the best of them here. The images presented here are of low resolution and are copyrighted so please do not download the images. If you are interested in getting copies of the some of the images here please contact me so we can make arrangements.
